The top websites in your niche are a good learning ground as you can pick up some really good tips just by doing some basic research. I have come across many sites where there design is just shocking, it looks like something that was created back in the 60′s and has been left to one side and neglected. A websites design can sway a users opinion as a poorly designed site doesn’t make you look professional or trustworthy. Its best to be very clear about what your offering and how your are going to complete there order. Don’t leave gaps or try to hide anything, if a user suspects your not telling the whole story or haven’t provided enough information then they wont hesitate to hit back button and visit another site. If you have promotions or special offers then make that stand out, even if the user doesn’t go for that particular offer it still tells them that your active and care about your customers.

Its also a very good idea to take a quick look at the websites linking to that site, as it will be highly likely that you can replicate those links and mirror what the top sites are doing. Building links is an important factor of the success of a website. Building links can help you rank highly in the search engines and produce a lot of traffic to your site.
