There are two basic designs for websites, template websites or custom websites. The template website is built from pre-designed images, banners and layouts, limited to the designs available within the online web site builder software. A custom website is created completely from scratch; everything on the site is unique and original with unlimited designs.

Of course there are pros and cons for both of these designs. For example, template websites can be completed quickly and easily, and fairly inexpensively using an easy site builder. However, for a business website, this may not be the best option, as the software will offer a design that is not unique to your company and will have limited images, fonts and color selections. Additionally, there may be a limit to how much content can be included and you must complete any changes yourself. Rarely is there any type of maintenance offered.

It is true that creating custom websites does take considerably longer and are often fairly expensive; however, keep in mind that you are getting a website design that is totally unique to you and your business. Custom sites generally feature personalized images or graphics, unlimited space for your content along with unlimited color and font selections. Custom sites are usually the best, new websites that feature full update support and maintenance, flash movement, customized layouts and database storage.

If you are a business owner and you want your website to draws customers, produce leads and generate sales, then a custom website is the way to go. An introductory page, pages to present products and services in detail, and a contact form or shopping cart are all extremely important to the success of ecommerce websites; playing a key part in whether or not the visitor to your site will contact you. Research has shown the importance of placing images next to the text that you want to be sure your visitors see, as well as the strategic placement of your phone number. Another key factor is the ease of navigation and simplicity in filling out site forms. A custom website gives you the freedom to do this whereas a template site does not because it usually restricts where you can place these important marketing items.

Thanks to the Internet, shopping has become much simpler and faster than jumping into your car and heading off to the mall to shop for a particular product or service, making it much more important that you have a website that is professional looking and dynamic. Custom websites provide those professional touches that will set your site apart from all of the others. It needs to be combined with a good layout and the proper marketing approach, as you only have that one chance to grab a customer. The sites that offer template-generated business websites usually offer no support should a problem arise and they are basically carbon copies of many other websites found online.
