When a website designer is given a campaign from a client many of them start by opening up Photoshop and start making a layout for a new web site.
A number of them even get started right away by open up programs such as Dreamweaver and coding up a layout.
Whilst this can speed up the method, it is also scrimping in the design and development of a corporate web design.
The more professional corporations prefer to work the old fashioned way by doing some buyer and keyword research, gather content about the clients’ services and products and then pulling out an old notepad or bits of paper and simply outlining some ideas.
Once these ideas have formed, then the following stage will be to use a type of computer software program to outline the important steps in the journey that a client will make on a website.
There are a variety of tools available for PC, Mac and even iPad users. Here is a list of these tools.
The advantage of using these tools is that it enables the layout and the effectiveness of a site to be scoped out in advance of any design and development being incurred on either the supplier or client side.
PowerPoint
Good old school PowerPoint works absolutely fine. You begin by making a layout in the template view for your navigational elements and then reverting back to the layout view and making new pages to populate the content of each web page.
Sword soft
This is a hidden gem found in the Mac App store. It has some pre built templates for desktop, iPhone and iPad layouts. Layouts can be created very fast as the programme has hundreds of icons which you can select from to make a striking set of concepts from.
Adobe Muse
While this actually a layout programme for designers who would like to build websites, it may also be utilised as a layout or wireframe application. As more designers add website building to their skills, keep an eye out for more about this program. And it’s free.
Power Mock up
Users of PowerPoint will like this software. It’s an add-on to PowerPoint especially for creating website layouts. The benefit is that you do not have to learn new software so you can dive straight in and create.
iMockup
This is an iPad application to form layouts and wireframes. Using this programme is a completely different experience from any other software as you are using your fingers, not a mouse, to make your ideas.
In summing up
When designing and making a customised web design occasionally it is best to leave the particular design process till the end. These pieces of software do nicely where you can just design over the canvas you create.
